St. Luke's Celebrates Birth of Record-Breaking Baby

Every year St. Luke's keeps track of the most popular baby names in Siouxland and in 2008, topping the list of names were Emma and Ayden.

For the girls, the most popular names this year are Olivia, Isabella, Brooklyn, Addison and Kaylee. For the boys, the most popular names are Caden, Ethan, Jacob, Christopher and Jackson.

What's in a name? The most popular names at GW

GW's list slightly resembles the list from the Social Security Administration, which announces the most popular baby names each year. In 2007, Jacob defeated Michael for first, while Matthew came in fourth and Daniel came in eighth. Jessica, GW's third most common female name, earned sixteenth place in the United States.

Sarah, GW's most common female name, came in tenth nationwide. Emily was the most common female name in the United States, while it ranks eleventh at GW.

On the opposite side of the spectrum, 2,154 undergraduates do not share their name with anyone on campus. For instance, only one student shares her name with Martha, George Washington's wife.

As for George, 18 lucky undergraduates share their name with GW's founder. Nationwide, the name George captures the 137th spot.

Jayden by any other name

Britney Spears gave one of her son's that name.

In Victoria, many baby names also honored the celestial. One was named Heaven, two Heavenly and four Nevaeh, or heaven spelled in reverse.

Other parents stuck to more traditional names. María Quiñonez gave birth to a 7-pound son at DeTar Hospital North at 7:45 p.m. Dec. 30. The Victoria woman named her baby John Alfred.

"The reason I wanted to do that is we already have a weird last name," she said, adding, "I wanted to have a simple name that he could spell."

Easier, probably, than another name given to a baby born in Victoria last year - Octavian Augustus.

Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner Announce Violet’s Sister’s Name

Though the pressure to have their child stand out in a world of fame and fortune may be one reason for such strange and curious celebrity baby names, we wonder how important the uniquness of their child's name will be when their child is full grown and writing a tell-all book about how her parents forced her to join a cult and watch terrible movies year after year…does Suri Cruise ring a bell? We suggest that Hollywood couples like Brangelina, TomKat and Jlo and "What's His Name" should consider some "green" names for their future offspring (or small country in the case of Brangelina). Here are some of our favorites from www.thinkbabynames.com

Berilo… "pale green genstone"

Denver… "green valley"

Greenwood… "green wood" (duh)

Hewney….
